LIQUID HERBAL EXTRACTS

A tincture is a liquid herbal extract made by combining herbs with alcohol, ageing the mixture, then decanting it. A tincture is very convenient. You can carry it with you and take your botanical medicine while you are away from home.

Ingest the tincture by depositing it under your tongue with the dropper. Follow with water.

Other ways to take it: in juice, in water, in tea, or in very hot water.
To quickly evaporate the alcohol from a tincture before ingesting, add it to very hot water or tea. The tinctures listed here (exceptions noted) are made by us on our premises with strict quality control.

WHY ALCOHOL IS USED
Alcohol is the only edible solvent that will extract and concentrate the most plant chemicals, i.e. fixed oils, essential oils, resins, balsams, alkaloids, flavonoids, etc. These important naturally-occurring chemicals are readily soluble in alcohol, but insufficiently soluble in water, vinegar or glycerine. The aforementioned non-alcoholic solvents produce a very much weaker tincture than the tincture made with alcohol. Alcohol also preserves a tincture in a natural way. One dropper full (an average dose) of a tincture amounts to consuming 1/85 of an 8 ounce glass of wine.
